This UPS provides the power for a safety lighting system used on passenger carrying ships. Original system proved unreliable a locked up for no apparent reason.
The elegant solution was to add a watchdog circuit to monitor the output. If the output failed it would produce reset pulses to reset the module, resulting in the output being restored so quickly that the failure would not be visible to the eye.
